How to Plan a Eurovision-Themed Party

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most exciting music events of the year, filled with dazzling performances, elaborate costumes, and infectious tunes. What is the Eurovision Song Contest?

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual international singing competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It began in 1956 and has since grown into one of the most-watched televised music events in the world. 

Participating countries submit original songs performed live, and viewers, along with professional juries, vote to determine the winner. Eurovision is known for its extravagant performances, diverse musical styles, and sense of unity among nations.

Which Countries Enter the Eurovision Song Contest?

Eurovision is primarily open to countries that are active members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which includes many European nations as well as some non-European ones. Over 40 countries participate each year, including the “Big Five” (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) who automatically qualify for the final. 

Other countries, such as Australia, have also been invited to compete in recent years. Despite its European focus, Eurovision celebrates diversity and brings together a global audience.

When is the Eurovision Song Contest 2025?

The grand final of the Eurovision song contest will be held on Saturday 17th May 2025, with the semi finals being held on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th May.

What is the song line up for Eurovision 2025?

Participating countries submit their entires to the semi finals which are held in the week ahead of the final, so the final line up will not be known until then.

The list of semi finalists are gradually announced between January and March 2025.

Holding a Eurovision Sweepstake

In the weeks before the semi finals, many people like to have a sweepstake competition.

 Each participant pays an agreed stake to enter. This could be £1, £5 or whatever you wish, but all players should pay the same entry fee per country. Write the names of each country on small pieces of paper and fold up so allow participants to pick then blind.

Make sure to keep a record of who picks which country! On the night, the prize money is then awarded to the player with the winning country. You can also choose to split the prize money to award smaller amounts for second and third place.

Each player can give their own ratings on the performances, scoring out of 10 for each category of song, performance and staging to give an overall score out of 30. Then compare your ratings to those of the judges and public vote!

The person whose scores are closest to the real winner of the competition could be awarded a prize!
